God is Love
To understand God as Love we must understand what Love – with a capital ‘L’ – is. This Love is referred to as Divine Love or unconditional Love. It is a Love without judgement, thought, or stipulations (i.e. it is not an investment). It comes from within your invisible silent self and from without – an unexplainable force or energy. It proceeds thought as it is not of the mind or the realm of words, so how can one describe something without words? Divine Love is felt like overwhelming joy or awe. It affects the body in a physical sense too. Again, difficult to describe to the mind, it may feel like a pleasurable chill (i.e. gives you goosebumps), a sense of being fulfilled or whole, or a warmth deep within. Think of the part in Dr. Seuss’s story How The Grinch Stole Christmas! where at the end of the story the Grinch’s heart grew three sizes. This is a good analogy on how Divine Love feels within the body. It is also the feeling of connectedness you sometimes obtain during meditation, where you feel like a child of the Universe and part of Everything. Which is exactly what you are!
God is Energy
Energy is neither created nor destroyed. It is simply moved from one form to another. It is in everything from the smallest known particle to the largest celestial body. Energy IS Everything. The scientific community accepts this although it cannot explain where it came from or how it came to be, so why would it be such a difficult task to relate to Energy as God? Mainly because humans feel most comfortable labeling the unknown in a way that personifies it. In order to feel close to and understand this ‘Energy’ or God, it’s easiest to think of this formless thing as ‘like us.’ It is also comforting to our human psyche to imagine that there is a cosmic parent taking care of all humanity. A being that will take all responsibility for our actions and make everything all right in the end. For most it is overwhelmingly challenging to accept full responsibility for their Life and using God as a scapegoat (i.e. “God works in mysterious ways”) is simpler and takes some of the burden off their shoulders.
The other main reason humans latch onto a Divine figure that is like us is out of fear. One of the things humans fear most is the unknown because our minds fill in the space with dark imaginings that are far more terrible than reality. The fear of death is also man’s largest obstacle to understanding God as Love/ energy. Yet once you cognize the concept of God as Energy and understand that Energy is neither created nor destroyed you will realize that we are eternal. When we die our energy just changes form or gets absorbed into the collective Light (think of photons). The more in touch with Love you are verses fear, the more aware you will be of your own personal energy (or soul). Bringing awareness to your personal energy (another way of saying this is the part of God you carry within your body vehicle) will allow you to retain your awareness/ consciousness outside of the body – consciousness in death or Eternal Life.
Once a firm grasp on these concepts is established you may begin to commune with God/ Love through the Holy Spirit and strengthen your soul (personal energy).
